Sewerage Schemes

Urban Sector

There are total 60 Towns/Urban Local Bodies in Himachal Pradesh (Anni town has been de-notified vide Pr. Secy (UD) No. UD-A (3)-2/2020 dated 11.07.2023¬). The sewerage system of Shimla Town is with Shimla Jal Prabhandan Nigam (SJPNL). Jal Shakti Vibhag has provided sewerage facility in 39 towns. Out of which 13 towns have been provided with complete sewerage system and 26 towns have been partially covered with sewerage system (i.e. few zones/ areas have been left out of coverage). Jal Shakti Vibhag has installed 66 STPs of 97.303 MLD capacity having sewage flow of 59.477 MLD, 2 No. Septic Tanks of 0.205 MLD capacity having sewage flow of 0.07 MLD in 2 ULBs, 1 no. Septic tank of 373 users in 1 ULB (Sarkaghat) and 13 Nos. Septic tank in Bilaspur Town with Sewerage connection facility to 160 HH. The work for construction of new Sewerage Schemes in 5 towns ( Bhota, Santokhgarh, Talai , Baijnath-Paprola and Nerchowk ) is in progress. The A/A & E/S for providing sewerage system in 6 Town have been accorded and proposals of balance 9 towns are being prepared and posed for funding under state head or Externally Aided Projects (EAP) AFD. [Towns being covered under AFD are Nahan, Bilaspur, Karsog, Palampur and Manali (Rangri)] Sewerage connectivity to left out & low laying area in MC Kullu has been approved under AMRUT 2.0 for Rs. 3.10 Cr and the work is in progress. Up-gradation of STP at Badah at Kullu has been approved under AMRUT 2.0 for Rs. 8.50 Cr for which tender is under process.

Rural Sector

The department has started the execution of Sewerage Schemes rural areas. At present sewerage facility has been partially provided in 8 rural areas i.e. Sharbo (Reckong Peo), Jhakri, Kunihar, Sangla (Phase-II & III ), Chintpurni (Zone-I), Hardsar, Marhi (Manali) & Sandhole (Phase-II) having instated capacity of 4.32 MLD against sewage flow of 2.61 MLD and the work of sewerage scheme in 15 rural areas is in progress . For making necessary arrangement and develop necessary infrastructure for conveyance, handling and treatment of sludge / sewage received from Septic tanks of Local GPs mapped to the STPs in Urban areas, the funds of Rs. 5 Crore have been received from Rural Development Department and same have been allocated to 43 STPs of 28 Divisions of JSV & SJPNL. In addition, the sewerage schemes in rural areas have also been included for funding as MLA Priority under NABARD. Till date 16 No. sewerage schemes have been approved under NABARD for amounting to Rs. 220.77 cr. Sewerage schemes are being prepared for rural areas and posed for funding under NABARD as per MLA priority, Tribal Head etc.
